What's in the backpack?

Many asked me recently, how do I pack for 7 months of travels?

The answer can be as simple as it doesn't matter whether you go for 7 months or 2 weeks. You need the same kind and amount of stuff. Or maybe less, as you are not carrying a pulley suitcase between the airport terminal and the taxi but anywhere you go, what you bring will end up on your back every other day. Am sure I will leave behind many of the unnecessary..

So here's the complete list:

  • - Lowe Alpine AT Voyager 70l rucksack with a 15l daypack
  • - Asics GT-2000 running shoes for walking and sports
  • - Salomon XA 3D trail running shoes for trekking and hiking
  • - Reef comfortable flip flops for walking
  • - Puma / Havaianas lightweight flip flops for the beach (and nasty showers)
  • - Helly Hansen waterproof windfoil jacket
  • - Helly Hansen fleece
  • - A hoodie
  • - A merino base layer
  • - 6x short sleeve T-Shirts
  • - A long sleeve T-Shirt
  • - A sports T-Shirt (easy dry)
  • - A linen shirt
  • - Pair of blue jeans
  • - 2x water repellent long trousers (one pair is zip-off to convert to shorts)
  • - Pair of short trousers
  • - Pair of swim shorts
  • - 7x boxer shorts
  • - 7x pairs of socks (5 running, 1 normal, 1 hiking)
  • - Toiletries
  • - First aid / painkillers / antibiotics

Gadgets and miscellaneous:
  • - Sony Z2 tablet
  • - Sony RX100M3 compact camera + bag
  • - 6x NP-BX1 camera battery + dual charger
  • - 6x 64GB Sandisk microSD card
  • - 8x 16GB pendrives
  • - An Anker Astro E4 13000mAh battery pack
  • - Sony Z1 Compact smartphone
  • - An Orico 6.8A 4 Port USB charger + 4x USB cables
  • - 2x US to UK converter and 1x EU to UK converter
  • - A Samsung M3 Slimline 2TB external hard drive
  • - A Joby GorillaPod original tripod
  • - Earphones
  • - Pack of cards
  • - Lifeventure documents wallet
  • - A Hungarian and a British passport
  • - Vaccination records book
  • - Lonely Planet: Latin American Spanish phrasebook
  • - Sunglasses
  • - PADI scuba diving log book
  • - Online banking key
  • - Sawing kit

All this makes the big bag weight 12 kgs and the daypack 3.5 kgs.  That should do.

Hello friends, family and random people of the Internet!

A little more than a week left until the start of our journey and we are getting really excited about it.

Not to mention that our adventure is starting much sooner, TOMORROW, actually, by moving out of the rental flat, which is, after all, the perfect way getting used to being homeless.

Thankfully our fantastic friends Edi, Romas, Dalia, Karesz and Ramona offered shelter for the last ten days so this little appetiser of couchsurfing will kick off our holiday mood big time.

The first leg of our journey is above, starting in London on the 6th of October and ending in Havana around Christmas.
